I found this vocabulary, lazy Susan, very interesting, so let's play a puzzle.
Clue 1: It is a useful instrument related to cooking and dinning.
Clue 2: its' shape is rounded.
Clue 3: I see a note in restaurant, it says "don't play the lazy Susan"
Think for a second, then check the answer below.
Here is how the lazy Susan looks like:
or it might look like the other way below.
First one is what we see very often in Chinese restaurants,
a rouded and woody tray placed on the top of a table.
It is convenient for people to share food.
Second one is what you might see in the kitchen.
It is usually placed in a cabinet, and the tray can spin.
Therefore, it is very convenient for picking up.
The first time I saw this vocabulary is in a Chinese restaurant,
my friend and I were arguing about who invented this tray.
Why does a chinese thing has a English name?
We both think the inventor of this tool should be a Chinese.
However, with regard to its' name, it seems like that someone named Susan invented it.
Therefore, I decide to google it.
Here comes three results,
it is invented by Thomas Jefferson or a house servant named Susan, or Thomas Edison.
People believe that Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Edison is the inventor and named the tool after their daughters, Susan.
