What Dating means for some Americans is a cultural shock to me!
Why do I say "some Americans?" I still believe that not all Americans will agree the idea which I am going to talk about later, especially American women.
This summer, I met an American who is dating with a girl and still call her "a friend" while the girl introduces him "my boyfriend." That guy thinks that they are dating doesn't mean that they are boyfriend and girlfriend, and a person can be dating with more than one person.
Actually, I agree with the idea that a person can be dating with more than one person. Just like making friends, people can watch movies and hanging out one by one with different person every time. However, I know, for some of Taiwaness, that also means a relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend.
In my opinion, what the two person do is the key to define their relationship. The reason I was shocked by the guy is that he and "his friend" slept together and he still call her "a friend." One more thing, they have been dating less than two months and have such a close relationship!
Therefore, I have a thought, does the movie truly reflect what Americans act? They can have sex right after first date?! Anyway, Taiwaness might view dating as a start of a close relationship while Americans don't think so.
For dating, there are related phrases, such as blind date and speed dating.
Blind date is an arranged meeting between a man and women. In Mandrain, it will be 相親. Speeding dating, you can find it in Hitch(全民情聖). While Sara and Cassey went to an event that they talked to different men by turns in several minutes, that's a speed dating. It is similar to so-called 聯誼.
