I just experienced the Black Friday, but it is not the thirteenth on Friday. Then, what is it?
The friday after Thanksgiving in the United States is the Black Friday that everyone gets a day off for shopping. It is the start for preparing Christmas gifts. Other than that, it is also a good timing to buy something luxurious, such as a good laptap, a flat TV, Coach bages, or other expensive things because there is ususally an additional discount.
Someone has told me that "black" refers to that the list on which salers write down their sales. Customers buy a lot because the day is a big shopping day, and the sales are busy writing the sales in black. Then, if you have a chance to look at the list on the end of that day, you will feel like that the day is a black day because the lists are full of the black words on.
I went to a outlet, and as usual, first came the traffic jam. I forgot how close me and my friends were to exit, but we had waited for one 40 minutes to get to the exit. Second came the parking lot. It was super difficult to find a parking lot when the sale had already started. We might spend like 40 minutes also in looking for a parking space. When you conquered the two difficultites above, the most toturing part came.
There was a line infront of every famous, expensive, good quality store. In order to get into the store, you might need to stand on line in a breezing, chilly weather for half an hour or more. The line infront of Coach was the longest line I had seen. From midnight to dawn, there must be around one hundred people there. It was insane that there were still tons of people when I got there around 5 o'clock in the morning and the sale had already started for 5 hours.
Once you got into the store, you might be not able to find whatever you want. The stores were occupied with people, and the products were in a mess. If you did find something you would like to buy, then what waiting for you is the long long register line. Another one hour wait again.
In short, the keyword of the Black Friday is Wait, waiting for passing the traffic jam, getting into store and so forth.
I left the outlet around seven in the morning, I told my friend that I hadn't been so young since college, but I was extremely tired that I am not going to shop like this next year. Unless I already know what I am going to buy, and I only have one target, such a Core Due sony laptap for 500 usd only. Then, I proably try again, otherwise, a big NO NO.
