I felt like that I almost become a preposition geek.

Recently I have been working on my expert preposition, the topic is about prepositions. After serveral discussions with groupmates, we all have the same conclusion -- we are too brave!

Even we read tons of papers, we can't not be 100% sure about what we are going to present. The most difficult part of presenting prepositions is to explain. In Taiwan, students are spontaneous to memorize the usages of different prepositions, teachers usually tell students to memorize them also. Therefore, even I know which preposition I should use, I don't know how to explain the reason.

The news about deadly shootings at Virginia Tech is very shocking. There were thirty three people died on Monday, the most serious massacre in the United States.

This kind of circumstance has happend frequently, the well-known one was in 1986. A United States Postal Service employee suddenly went crazy, shot and killed people in the post office. Hence, "going postal" becomes an idiom for describing a person who turns to be very angery and kill people.

In the aftermath of the shooting, many Asian students left from Virgina Tech, especially Korean students, because they were afraid of discrimination.

America is a melting pot. You probably can hear at least two languages when you walk on the street, or you can see different racial people.

One of my friends even had said that he was motivated by the language diversity and wanted to pick up at least one other language beside English.

Then, one day in class, professor raised a question, which group of people only speaks one language?

The Alameda is where I live. It is a very beautiful place.

My friend told me that Alameda is a very common name for streets in America. Its origin is from Spanish. It means a walking street. Usually  there are a lot of trees on the Alameda, or there might be a park on the Alameda. It is true in where I live, and there are trees along the street and two parks nearby.

If the circumstance is true in everywhere in America, then people who are looking for a new place can take the Alameda into consideration. Or the new arrivals can check and choose to live on the Alameda.

Daylight saving time starts today.

When I was enjoying the Sunday morning on the bed, my roomate shouted in front of my door, 'Stacy! It is 11:35, not 10:35. Daylight saving time starts today, it is very late now! You...."

I woke up and checked the alarm and cellphone! Good! I had pulled out the plug again and turned off the cellphone. I wasted all the morning because of my sleep and DST.

Once, I told my friend I didn't used to wear "短褲."
What I said was "short pants" at that time, and unfortunately it is uncommon and consided to be wrong.
My friend told me that people usually say "shorts," and that's it.
Therefore, pants and shorts are different, and "short pants" means another thing.

  • So Bad

So bad,

how would you explain the meaning?
I have heard someone said that I want that so bad.
It is so interesting that I have never thought of this usage.
It might have a different meaning in another sentence,
for example, she is so bad.
